Phagomidin™ Spermidine
Spermidine is a naturally occurring polyamine capable of interacting with ribonucleic acid (RNA). Its name derives from its initial discovery: it was first isolated from semen. However, spermidine is not exclusive to semen; it is present in all cells of every living organism, including plant cells.
What is the function of spermidine?
Over 60 clinical studies have explored the biological significance of spermidine. Many of these demonstrate its antioxidant properties and its capacity to stimulate autophagy—the process of cellular cleaning and renewal. These effects have been validated across plant, animal, and human studies.
For example, cardiovascular research highlights several benefits:
Spermidine offers protection against cardiac aging, enhances diastolic function, improves left ventricular elasticity, and supports mitochondrial health. It can reverse age-related vascular stiffness, positively influence atherosclerotic plaques, and help lower high blood pressure. In humans, these effects collectively contribute to a reduced incidence of cardiovascular diseases.
Further investigations reveal beneficial impacts on:
- Metabolic syndrome (including obesity and type 2 diabetes), with reductions in weight gain and related complications
- Neuroprotection, offering defenses against neurodegeneration and memory loss, and slowing the progression of dementia
- DNA protection from environmental radiation, such as that encountered during long-haul flights
Which plant sources provide spermidine?
Common dietary sources include rice and wheat germ. However, their spermidine content is quite low (e.g., wheat germ contains only about 0.2 mg/g), necessitating extraction and concentration processes.
Many available extracts are not yet approved for market use, as they require Novel Food registration.
What makes our Phagomidin™ wheat sprout spermidine unique?
Our manufacturer employs a proven, chemical-free method: germinating organic-certified wheat germ. This process concentrates vital nutrients—including amino acids, antioxidants, enzymes, and minerals essential for plant growth—making it a more valuable addition to our diet than non-germinated wheat from conventional farming.
Our Phagomidin™ contains a minimum of 5 mg/g spermidine. Additionally, our gluten-free option is derived from sprouted buckwheat.
In which applications can our Phagomindin™ be utilized?
Primarily, spermidine is marketed for its cell-renewing properties in anti-aging formulations. It is suitable for manufacturing tablets, capsules, sachets, bars, gummies, and various other health products.
