Keratin, together with collagen and elastin, is one of our most important structural proteins—it is the dominant component in the composition of hair, nails, and skin. Keratin is a tough, fibrous protein that makes up 90% of hair as well as 90% of the structure of nails. It is found in the outermost layer of the skin—the epidermis—where it forms its protective barrier and prevents water loss. Keratinocytes, the cells that produce keratin, are the most common cell type in the epidermis.

The unbreakable Keratin trio

Keratin, as one of our most important protein building blocks, is formed of essential amino acids – whereby sulphur-rich Cysteine, often derived from animal sources like sheep wool, is one of them. However, Cysteine found in wool cannot naturally be digested by the body.

Thanks to a proprietary manufacturing process, our French partner LC Ingredients has succeeded in softening the disulfate bonds, in order to deliver Cysteine in a tri-peptide form that significantly improves its absorption rate. This leads to bioactive and bioavailable oligopeptides, also known as Keratin hydrolysates: Cynatine®, Melaline® and Melatine®.



What product versions does Cynatine® entail?

Cynatine® is safe, tolerable and non-allergic, as well as friendly towards animals – as it is derived from the wool from the Spring shearing of white sheep from New Zealand. Developed for food supplements, are product versions Cynatine® HNS (hair, nail and skin) and Cynatine® FLX (joints) while designed for topical cosmetics, our Cynatine® TOP (hair and skin) is an excellent option.
